Xiaomi is popular for manufacturing low-cost smartphones without compromising the quality. The Chinese mobile manufacturer has launched its reasonably priced 4G enabled mobile device ‘Redmi 2’ in India at rock bottom price of Rs.6999 only.
Xiaomi Redmi 2 4G runs Android 4.4 KitKat with deeply customized MIUI 6 out of the box and will directly compete with Lenovo A6000 and Motorola Moto E 2nd Gen 3G as well as the 4G variant which will be launched in India soon.
Display, Processor and RAM
It sports 4.7 inch fully laminated HD IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels at 312 PPI (pixels per inch). Redmi-2 is powered with 64-bit 1.2 GHz Quad-core Cortex-A53 Snapdragon 410 processor and Adreno 306 GPU. There is 1 GB RAM with 8 GB internal storage. MicroSD card up to 32 GB is also supported for external storage. Xiaomi is also planning to launch the limited edition of Redmi-2 with 2 GB RAM and 16 GB internal storage soon.
Xiaomi Redmi 2 4G is a Dual SIM handset which supports 4G on both the SIM slots and is capable to work on 4G bands which are available in India presently. You can get up to 150 Mbps download speed on 4G using this smartphone.
There is an 8MP autofocus primary camera with LED Flash and 2MP front camera for selfies. You can take high-quality crystal clear images with Redmi 2’s 8MP BSI camera with 5-elements lens.
The infrared sensor protection on this device can improve image quality if taken in daylight. In the case of low-light, the BSI will do its job and manage to get awesome images in the night. The rear camera can shoot videos up to 1080p.

Unlike its predecessor Redmi 1S, this variant comes with lots of improvements. It has AGC Dragontrail glass protection and comes with two MEMS noise canceling silicon microphones which are superior to other generally used ECM microphones in different mobile devices available in the market. Other connectivity options are 3G HSPA+, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, A-GPS and micro USB v2.0 port. OTG is also supported on Redmi-2.
The 2200 mAH Sony/LG lithium-ion polymer battery is capable to last for a day in moderate usage and it is supported by ‘Quick Charge’ technology which can charge 40% faster. If your usage is high then I recommend carrying a Power Bank while stepping out of your comfort zone because using data on 4G tends to consume more resources.
You might be thinking, whether you will be able to play high-end games on this device or not?
The answer is yes, you can play high-end games in Xiaomi Redmi 2 4G without any lag due to its powerful 64-bit Quad-core processor and 1 GB RAM. The Cortex-A53 processor has 50% higher CPU performance than it’s predecessor, Cortex-A7. DirectX and FlexRender support on Adreno 306 GPU renders high-quality graphics and will offer you awesome 3D gaming experience.
Fingerprint and grease-resistant back cover come with the matte finish on Redmi-2. The handset will be available in different colors like Black, White, Pink, Green and Yellow. But I believe, only White color is available for sale presently in India.
In my opinion, Xiaomi Redmi-2 4G LTE is a value for money mobile. If you are considering to purchase a 4G enabled handset with a tight budget then this is the device for you. Though the 2200 mAH battery seems to be a bit of concern for a dual SIM, dual 4G handset but still this feature-packed mobile can do wonders for you.
